چکیده

A three-dimensional simulation of an aerobraking maneuver is investigated using a dissipative timestepping algorithm. The system modelled consists of an atmospheric probe connected to an orbiter by a thin, elastic tether. A dissipative time-stepping scheme, developed from the generalised-alpha method, is used to accurately predict the highly nonlinear dynamics of the flexible system. The simulations include atmospheric and gravitational models corresponding to an oblate planetoid. A three-dimensional aerobraking maneuver is simulated for a tethered system orbiting Mars.

An Algorithm for Modeling and Interpretation of Seismoelectric Data

Generally speaking, seismoelectric modeling is a prospecting method based on seismic and electromagnetic waves, in which waves generated by a seismic source at the boundary of the two environments generate a relative fluid-solid motion formed as a result of antagonism between the elastic properties of the environment with the saturated fluid. This research has as its objective, a study of the e...

A General Solution for Implicit Time Stepping Scheme in Rate-dependant Plasticity

In this paper the derivation of the second differentiation of a general yield surface implicit time stepping method along with its consistent elastic-plastic modulus is studied. Moreover, the explicit, trapezoidal implicit and fully implicit time stepping schemes are compared in rate-dependant plasticity. It is shown that implementing fully implicit time stepping scheme in rate-dependant plasti...

A multiple time stepping algorithm for efficient multiscale modeling of platelets flowing in blood plasma

We developed a multiple time-stepping (MTS) algorithm for multiscale modeling of the dynamics of platelets flowing in viscous blood plasma. This MTS algorithm improves considerably the computational efficiency without significant loss of accuracy. This study of the dynamic properties of flowing platelets employs a combination of the dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) and the coarse-grained mol...

ATRIAS: Design and validation of a tether-free 3D-capable spring-mass bipedal robot

ATRIAS is a human-scale 3D-capable bipedal robot designed to mechanically embody the spring-mass model for dynamic walking and running. To help bring the extensive work on this theoretical model further into practice, we present the design and validation of a spring-mass robot that can operate in real-world settings (i.e. off-tether and without planarizing restraints). We outline the mechanisms...

Novel Axial Flux Brushless Resolver Analysis and Optimization Using 3D Finite Element and d-q Model Method

Resolvers are widely used in electric driven systems especially in high precision servomechanisms. Both encapsulated and pancake resolvers suffer from a major drawback: static eccentricity (SE). This drawback causes a significant increase in resolver output position error (RPE) which could not be corrected electronically. To reduce RPE, this paper proposes a novel structure with axial flux. Pr...
